Please get the job done: help expand the Canada Pension Plan
Dear _____________,
My name is __________, and I represent __________ workers in the _________ Region.
My members want you to act to ease their pension anxiety, to get the reforms they and all Canadians deserve.
Canada is at a crossroads, just like it was forty years ago when it was time to do something about our health care system. Today, we need to do something about retirement income, and we need to do it soon. On behalf of our members I request an urgent meeting with you on this matter so you understand the severity of this issue from our perspective.
Let me tell you a story from our community to bring this point home. [FILL IN YOUR LOCAL STORY HERE. EXAMPLES COULD INCLUDE: A SENIOR WITH LITTLE INCOME, A WORKER WITHOUT A DECENT PENSION, A MANUFACTURING WORKER WHO LOST THEIR PENSION IN A PLANT SHUTDOWN, A YOUNG PERSON WITHOUT DECENT WAGES OR PENSION BENEFITS]
The problem with Canada’s retirement income system has become so obvious that even bank economists have started to admit the RRSP approach has failed. There is too much at risk and not enough security to ensure that after a lifetime of work, people can retire and live out their last years in dignity.
We need to increase CPP benefits, and raise the minimum retirement income floor with clear benefits to everyone - no matter where you work. Your government has already spoken.
Please act now. We need to get the job done, and fix our pension system for the future generations.
Yours sincerely,
