About the Commission on Quality Public Services and Tax Fairness
Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty wants to pay off his budget deficit with deep, painful cuts to public services. The problem is, public services didn’t cause the deficit, and cuts now will not meet the needs of Ontarians. On the contrary: Cuts will kill jobs and make income inequality even worse.
As he cuts services for people, Dalton McGuinty is cutting taxes for big corporations. Meanwhile, people like Canada’s top CEOs can access loopholes that let them pay lower rates of tax than the rest of us.
The time has come for a serious conversation about quality public services and tax fairness. That’s why the
Public Services Foundation of Canada (PSFC)
has launched the Commission on Quality Public Services and Tax Fairness. Led by PSFC Chair Judy Wasylycia-Leis, the Commission will visit 12 Ontario communities in early 2012. The Commission wants to hear from frontline workers, public service users, community groups, and experts on public services and taxation. Most of all, it wants to hear from you.
